This statue is on Makham Yong Field, which is a historically significant site of Ayutthaya because, according to the chronicle, it is where Queen Si Suriyothai was killed on an elephant’s back during a battle in A.D. 1449.

Not only was the construction of the monument for honouring Queen Si Suriyothai but it was also for honouring Her Majesty Queen Sirikit on the auspicious occasion of Her Majesty’s 60th Birthday Anniversary in A.D. 1992. In addition, this field is also a project initiated by His Majesty King Rama IX that provide great benefits to people of Ayutthaya in terms of preventions for floods and draught because this field serves as a huge water retention area around 180 rais (288,00 sq. m.) not so far from the city.

Thai people know more about Makham Yong Field in A.D. 2012 when His Majesty King Rama IX, Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, and Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn went to the field to see the progress of the water retention zone and to meet with the local who came to see their Majesties King Rama IX and Queen Sirikit and Her Royal Highness the Princess around the statue, on 25th May. Nowadays, there is an archive that keeps the story of that event for people to read and learn about the event.

Location: Outside the city island to the northwest, from No. 347 High Way (Pathum Thani – Chao Pluk), not far from the monument of King Naresuan the Great
